Subtitled ‘A Tribute To The Giant Golden Book Of New Zealand’s Alternative Music Scene’, ‘Not Given Lightly’ is a wondeful tribute to NZ’s legendary Flying Nun label, paid dues by Germany’s equally cultish and loved Morr Music label. NZ circa 1980s: pop songs – or rather, little heard hits – were born in garages and pressed on screenprinted seven inches. A strong music culture beyond the global music industry was thought and lived. Some of these bands made it out to larger acclaim, but most didn’t, despite the following decade’s international indie heroes (Pavement, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth) championing them heavily.

CD1 features new versions of seminal Flying Nun songs by The Clean, The Chills, The Bats, The Verlaines, Chris Knox, The Tall Dwarfs, The Jean Paul Sartre Experience and more… Contributing artists include American Analog Set, Tarwater, Lali Puna, Isan, B. Fleischmann, It’s A Musical, Seabear, The Wooden Birds, and New Zealand’s current young upstarts, Surf City.

CD2 is a bonus disc and features tracks by the current Morr Music roster.
