Info
Every once in a while an artist comes along with such genuine talent, soul and ability it is hard to fathom how they had passed under the public radar for so long. Ellesquire is one of these artists, and with his debut album ‘Ready’, audiences across Australia will finally be exposed to the ‘smooth as butter’ delivery and knack for storytelling that makes Ellesquire one of the most exciting additions to the hip hop scene for years.
‘Ready’ is a 17-track collection of songs produced entirely by beatmaker/jazz musician extraordinaire P Major, featuring sample-heavy, lo-fi beats alongside soulful, eloquent rhymes with guest spots by P.Smurf, Tenth Dan, Rapaport and cuts by Sam Z. Ellesquire blends humorous, self deprecating lyrics with more traditional hip hop style braggadocio battle raps while exploring topics from reflections on life and heartbreak to visions for his future. However, he’s not one to confine himself to just rapping, Ellesquire also shows some singing talent handling hooks with a clear ear for melody.
No stranger to hard work, Ellesquire has already independently released a free self-titled album in 2010 with Loose Change (Ellesquire, Rapaport & producer P Major). Ellesquire and his crew went straight back to the studioto begin work on his solo album while playing support slots for artists such as Gift Of Gab (Blackalicious), Biz Markie, Urthboy, Horrorshow, Ozi Batla and Thundamentals, to name a few.
Ellesquire got into hip hop as a teen and by the age of 15 he was recording songs onto tape in his bedroom with no intentions of showing anybody. While Ellesquire grew older and learnt to refine his songwriting craft his music still kept its deeply personal quality. Only over the last 4-5 years has he become comfortable with showing his art to a wider audience, hence the album title ‘Ready’. After over ten years of working on his material he is finally ready to push it to the public, ready to take the accolades and criticism that will follow and ready to expose himself to audiences through his music.
