FREE MP3: Tania Bowers & Jori Hulkkonen Get Lost In The View
July 6th, 2011
Tania Bowers and Jori Hulkkonen are not only a highly dynamic pair, they are also one of the most unlikely. A testament to the old adage “opposites attract,” and perhaps to the winds of fate, The Tania and Jori Continents have combined their musical abilities to create a truly amazing sound and set to release their project ‘Continent One’, which will be in stores and online come July 29th.
Back in 1999, Bowers had uprooted herself from her native Australia and was living in urban Chicago to pursue a future in music as Via Tania. The soulful singer-songwriter already had years of industry experience under her belt, having been a part of various Sydney-based projects . Upon hearing Hulkkonen’s remix of The Presets “This Boy Is In Love” and then his take on Corey Heart’s 1980s classic “Sunglasses at Night,” Bowers decided to get in touch with him and start collaborating.
Hulkkonen, a DJ and house music producer that originally signed with Laurent Garnier’s legendary F Communications (St. Germain, Mr. Oizo) and remixer to the stars (Goldfrapp, Jose Gonzalez, M83, Robyn, Chromeo to name a few), responded to Tania from his hometown of Turku, Finland. The two mulled over the idea of a collaboration, and within the coming weeks a duo was born. Creative correspondence ensued as Hulkkonen sent Bowers his instrumental tracks and Bowers reciprocated by adding her vocals over them.
Two years later the pair finally met in person at Hulkkonen’s studio, resulting in a week-long recording session and more songs than they had ever anticipated. ‘Continent One’ is the result of those precious few days and a reflection of the past years Bowers and Hulkkonen spent fusing their musical talents – together and independently. It is an album as diverse as the artists who penned it, filled with sounds that are electronic, symphonic, and utterly addictive. The Tania and Jori Continents showcases a brilliant and inter-continental songwriting chemistry in superb form.
