Free mp3! Masha Qrella’s “Pink Frost”
August 11th, 2010
New Zealand’s Flying Nun Records and Germany’s Morr Music are two labels that require little introduction. Both have incredibly rich histories and are hugely culturally significant both in their country of origin and around the world. They’re not just geographic antipodes, however, they are also stylistic opposites, with the former garnering a formidable reputation as a purveyor of the finest kiwi punk, and the latter highly regarded as one of Europe’s top electronic labels.
It stands to reason, then, that one ought to pay tribute to the other (doesn’t it?) and as such, last week we released Not Given Lightly: A Tribute To The Giant Golden Book Of New Zealand’s Alternative Music Scene. Nevermind the fact that the title itself could fill a golden book, the album is a stunningly beautiful listen, with the current roster of Morr Music artists (such as American Analog Set, Tarwater, Lali Puna, Isan, B Fleischmann, Surf City, The Wooden Birds and more) covering songs by The Clean, The Chills, The Bats, The Ceralines, Chris Knox, The Tall Dwarfs, JPSE and numerous others.
Below is one such example: Berlin singer Masha Qrella covering The Chills’ 1984 classic “Pink Frost”, available to stream and download for free. Enjoy!
